THINGS ARE CHANGING
It’s November. The leaves have all but fallen off the trees, and the sun is setting at 5pm. A quick walk through the woods or down the street gives a visual confirmation of something we can internally feel… things are changing. Things are different than they were a month ago, and they are different than they were a week ago. And while sometimes change can be exciting, it can also be scary. Sometimes, change can make you feel like someone other than yourself. Sometimes, change can make you feel inadequate or incomplete. Sometimes it is beautiful.
Consider a tree, changing throughout the seasons. The beautiful bussing of growth in the spring, the lush green of summer, the vibrant colors of autumn, and the tranquil hibernation of winter. One thing remains true throughout this contrast and change – the tree is still a tree. Throughout the seasons, the wind, storms, and snow, throughout all of the change, the tree remains a tree.
When trees lose part of themselves in fall and winter, do they feel incomplete or inadequate? No, because they are still a tree. And they know this is just a season, and like life, seasons come and go. There are seasons of growth, seasons of loss, and seasons of rest. What season are you in? Remember, no matter the answer, you are exactly who you are and where you should be. Be a tree and embrace the change.
